I built my own Spotify tool
The rules are broken.
Hi,
The rules are breaking (if not officially broken) and barriers to entry are collapsing. What used to take months or years to build something can now take days or even hours with AI.

Over the past few months, there’s been an increasingly popular term in the AI and tech worlds called “vibe coding” (ugh I wish I were joking but that is what it’s actually called).
“Vibe coding” is essentially using AI to generate programming code and then using that code to build things: apps, new platforms, software, etc.
Almost every week for the last few months, I’ve read stories about people with 0 coding experience (they’ve never coded a day in their lives), using ChatGPT to code and build apps or programs with some monetizing and creating subscriptions around.
Some of these apps have gone on to become incredibly successful and are generating upwards of $50,000 - $100,000 per month.
What used to take months or years to build can now take weeks or days.
People are building the solutions they wish existed and the barrier to entry is collapsing based on how accessible it’s become.
Without any prior programming experience myself, I thought it’d be fun to experiment and try to build something to learn what the hype is about (and also stay up to date on what’s happening with technology).
“What is this vibe coding everyone speaks of? We shall find out” I thought to myself.
After thinking about what bottlenecks I encounter on a daily basis doing music marketing, I realized that I am consistently spending time looking for music metadata.
I spend time looking for ISRC codes
I spend time looking for release dates
I spend time looking for official tracklists
Each one of these things requires looking somewhere - a DSP copyright line, logging into a distribution backend for info, and more.
I thought to myself…”what if I could build something where I just copied and pasted the link to a release and it automatically showed me the metadata I was looking for?”.
Alas…that is how the “vibe coding” journey began.
Over the course of a few hours, I explained my goal to ChatGPT, prompted it for code, and then used that code in an AI programming program called Cursor.
Cursor actually created the prototype of the tool and then I uploaded it to a platform called StreamLit.
I messed up a lot.
I got really frustrated at times and thought about quitting but ChatGPT helped me navigate through it.
Eventually I built something that worked. That thing is the Spotify Metadata Tool.

You can simply paste the Spotify URL to a release (single or album) and it will generate specific metadata for that release including:
ISRC code
Artwork
Song duration
Release date
Copyright line
and more
Here’s what it looks like:


It can even generate a PDF document with that information to easily share with other people.

Now…I know what you might be thinking.
After some some research, there are other websites + tools out there that have similiar functionality. You also might be thinking…who’s actually going to use this thing?
That is a valid question but the point isn’t what I built…
It’s that I built something.
I, someone with absolutely no programming experience, identified a challenge I was running into in my day to day life and used AI to build a solution for it. In hours.
I didn’t need to hire someone to help me.
It cost almost nothing (aside from the small cost of Cursor).
It took hours. Not years, months, weeks, or even days.
The rules are officially broken.
I couldn’t help but think…what other tools could the music industry use?
For example:
making invoicing easier and more automated
aggregating artist data from different sources (streaming, social, etc)
measuring campaign performance
keeping files organized
People are building tools with AI that automatically follow up on outstanding invoices.
You can choose what tone you want the communication to be in (polite, aggressive, irritated, etc) and it will do the follow ups for you, then keep track of what gets paid.
Artists and their teams, with some savvy, can literally build the tools they wish existed.
I thought it was a really profound exercise and one that might be a glimpse into a future where anyone can build anything.
